GCSE Dance is about looking at different styles of dance and concentrates on technique, performance skills and choreographic skills. We use the AQA specification.
This course looks at using dance as a way of expressing yourself and how to use dance to communicate with the audience.
You will be looking at dance within artistic and social contexts. You will dance as a solo performer and in duo’s and groups. The aims of the course is for the students to:
- Develop understanding and appreciation of a range of dance styles, develop aesthetic and artistic sensibility (awareness) to dance work.
- Develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to perform, choreograph and appreciate dance including an awareness of its artistic contexts.
- Develop life skills and attributes including decision making, critical and creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability to co-operate with others.
Within dance the students will have access to many opportunities; working with dance companies from the professional world, attending professional dance performances and they will be given career advice specific to their chosen field.
