Drama at Kingsford Community School is taught across year 7, and 8 and as an option subject in years 9,10,11. Throughout their study of Drama students learn about the history of theatre and drama as well as learning the essential skill base for GCSE drama through their exploration of various text and stimuli.

At KS3 students explore their creativity through weekly one hour lessons. Students learn a variety of different styles of drama ranging from Commedia dell’arte to Naturalism.

During lessons students are encouraged to work collaboratively to problem solve and create interesting, thought provoking drama.

In KS4 Students undertake two GCSEs consecutively-Year9/10 Performing Arts Year10/11 Drama. The combination of these two subjects give our students the opportunity to learn and engage in a variety of different skill sets before eventually focusing in more detail on the specific discipline of acting in GCSE Drama.

Students currently undertake two GCSEs. AQA Performing Arts Single Award (year9-10) and EDEXCEL Drama (year10-11)

Last year Kingsford students achieved 79% A*-C in GCSE Drama. This was above the national average and also in excess of previous years attainment.

Also we have extra curricula clubs within the drama department. Regular clubs including:

  • working alongside professional playwrights and directors
  • Showcase performances
  • Participation in the Shakespeare Schools Festival
  • Theatre visits
