At Key Stage 3 the Design Technology department comprises 3 workshops and three dedicated subject rooms catering for, Textiles, Food, and Catering. All staff in the department work together, shares ideas, expertise and experience. All teaching staff in the department is expected to teach across the age range of the school. The department is well equipped with a wide range of materials, tools and machinery including CAD, CAM.
All project at KS3, titles remains the same throughout each term, however the work is constantly updated to meet every student needs.
The program of studies in Year 7 and 8 has been structured around the National Design and Technology programme of study.
At KS3 (year 7&8) we offer Food, Textiles, Resistant Materials and Graphics.
At Key Stage 4 The Design Technology Learning Area comprises of five departments. Catering, Textiles, Graphics, Resistant Material, BTEC Construction and Diploma in Engineering, with 2 Learning Area co- ordinator who oversees the day-to-day running of their subjects.
Your child will begin a three year GCSE course in year 9. We offer GCSE catering, textiles and graphics that is accredited by the Welsh Joint Board of Education (WJEC)
Student will also be given an opportunity to gain an additional GCSE, through the ‘vision to learn’ programme.
The modular course is broken down into modules which may be sat in January or June. Each module has its own weightings ranging from 20% to 30%.
Homework is set on a weekly basis, Homework is set once a week, each piece should take between 45 minutes and 1 hour to complete. We also expect each student to work independently by consolidating the learning objectives of each lesson.
In addition, we offer Edexcel BTEC Construction in conjunction with Stratford KS4 parents can support their child’s learning
- In key stage 4, we provide all pupils with GCSE revision books including past papers.
- Please ensure your child is fully utilising these resources at home. It may be useful if, where possible, parents would also provide a suitable test environment while pupils are attempting past papers.
- All pupils have access to SAM learning this should be used as an additional resource for independent study to help consolidate at the end of each lesson. Your child will also have homework set on this site.
