What are the aims of the course?
The AQA GCSE French and Spanish course consists of controlled assessments in speaking and writing (60%) and exams in reading and listening (40%).
The course should encourage students to:
- Develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of French and Spanish in a range of contexts.
- Develop the ability to communicate effectively in French and Spanish.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar of French and Spanish, and the ability to apply it.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where French and Spanish is spoken.
- Provide a suitable foundation for further study and/or practical use of French and Spanish.

In total, candidates submit 2 controlled speaking assessments and 2 controlled writing assessments which are directed by the subject teacher.
Each oral piece must last a minimum of 4 minutes.
Each written piece must be between
100 - 300 words in length.

Homework
Homework is set three times a fortnight and students will need to complete a range of tasks from reading, research, written work or revision. Each piece of homework should take at least 30 minutes to complete.
