What are the aims of the course?
The NVQ French course, provided by the OCR examination board, is a work related qualification that places language learning in the context of a business environment.
The course aims to develop the student's ability to use French effectively for practical communication within a business environment as well as promote learning skills for more general application. An emphasis is placed upon students acquiring language skills rather than just topic based work.
The four skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing provide the focus for both interactive learning and teacher led work.
The course should encourage students to:
- Develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of French in a business context
- Develop the ability to communicate effectively in French.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar of French and the ability to apply it.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where French is spoken.
- Provide a suitable foundation for practical use of French.
What will you study?
Students learn how to use languages in the following business contexts:
- Dealing with a visitor from abroad
- Going abroad on a business visit
- Making travel arrangements
- Booking accommodation
- Socialising, Eating and Drinking
- Dealing with business correspondence
- Dealing with orders
Controlled Assessments
Throughout the course of the year, students will complete three assessments in each of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to achieve an NVQ Level 1(GCSE equivalent E) or three/four assessments in each of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to achieve an NVQ Level 2 (GCSE equivalent B).
Homework
Homework is set three times a fortnight and students will need to complete a range of tasks from reading, research, written work or revision. Each piece of homework should take at least 30 minutes to complete.
